Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, which works out to $3,000 to $9,000 for 150 feet. Those numbers are national. We do not post a Springfield price list, because footage, height, gates, tear-out and how exposed the lot is to wind all change the figure.
Price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, not our own quotes. Local labor, material prices and the conditions in your yard move the number up or down. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?
The national range for a 6-foot privacy fence is $25 to $60 per foot installed. The table below shows totals by length for a typical fence at $20 to $60 per foot. Six feet of solid board takes more lumber and bigger posts than a low picket fence, so look toward the top of each row.
| Fence length | Typical installed cost |
|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $3,000 |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $6,000 |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $9,000 |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $12,000 |
What is the cheapest fence to have installed?
Chain link is the cheapest, starting near $9 per foot in the national figures. For privacy at the lowest cost, pressure-treated pine with dog-ear boards is the usual answer. To keep a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5 or 6 foot chain link is hard to beat, and wind goes straight through it, which helps on an open lot.
Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?
Aluminum, at $25 to $75 per foot, is cheaper than wrought iron at $50 to $85. It overlaps with vinyl at $30 to $60. In Springfield it is a common front yard choice, because the city wants front fences low and at least half open, and aluminum never needs repainting after a winter of road salt.
How much extra does a gate cost?
Each gate is priced on its own. Width, material, hinges, latch and any opener set the price. A single walk gate adds the least. A double drive gate needs larger posts and more concrete, and a powered gate adds an operator and wiring. You will see every gate as a separate line on our quote.
How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?
We price these after seeing the yard. Most Springfield lots are level, so slope is a small factor here except near creeks and at Lake Springfield. The extras we see more often are taking out an old fence and its concrete footings, cutting out mulberry and hackberry saplings that have grown through a back line, and hand digging around big tree roots.
I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?
Compare what each one includes before you compare the totals. Check the footage, the height, the grade of wood or vinyl, post size, post depth and spacing, the number and width of gates, removal of the old fence, any permit, and clean-up. On a windy prairie lot, post depth and spacing are where a low bid most often cuts. Quotes for the same written scope should not be far apart.
Does a fence add value to my home?
A fence in good shape helps a house sell, mainly to buyers with dogs or young children. It seldom returns its whole cost. Whether it changes your assessment is up to the township or county assessor.
