We build and repair chain link backstops for ball fields at schools, parks, churches and leagues in the Springfield area. Footings are sized for the height of the structure and our soft spring ground. We also fence sidelines, outfields and dugouts.
We build baseball and softball backstops for schools, park districts, churches and leagues in the Springfield area. A backstop is a tall chain link structure, often with angled wings and an overhang, sized to the age of the players and the space behind home plate.
The framework is heavy pipe, and the footings are large because of the height. Central Illinois soil is soft when wet, so footing size and depth are worked out for the structure and not copied from a yard fence. Fabric on a backstop takes thousands of hits, so we use heavier gauge mesh in the impact area and tie it closely.
We can also fence the rest of the field: sideline and outfield fence, dugout enclosures, gates for mowers and safety cap on the top rail. Work is best scheduled outside the playing season. Send us the field dimensions or a sketch and we will visit to measure.
Backstops in Springfield: common questions
Can you repair a backstop without replacing it?
Often. Torn or bulged fabric, loose ties and bent rails can be replaced on a sound frame. A frame that leans needs new posts.
How big should a backstop be?
That depends on the level of play and the room available. League and school standards give guidance. We build to the size your organization specifies.
Do you install outfield fence too?
Yes, permanent chain link or lower fence with a safety cap, along with gates and dugout fencing.
