Vinyl needs a wash and nothing else, which is why many Springfield and Chatham subdivisions are full of it. The catch on open lots is wind. We size the posts and rails for the exposure of your yard and check your covenants for allowed colors and styles.
Vinyl suits owners who do not want to stain a fence every few years. We install privacy, semi-privacy and picket styles in Springfield and the towns around it. It does not rot in damp soil, insects ignore it, and road salt thrown from a plow does not mark it. A wash with a hose and a brush is the whole upkeep.
Wind is the thing to plan for. A solid 6-foot vinyl panel is a sail, and much of the west and south side of Springfield is open to wind off the fields. The strength of a vinyl fence is in its posts, so we set them deep in concrete and use reinforced rails or stiffened posts on long exposed runs and at every gate.
Many newer subdivisions in Springfield, Chatham and Sherman have covenants that name the fence styles and colors allowed. Bring the covenant or the association's approval form to the estimate and we will quote a fence that fits it. White, tan and gray are the stock colors. Darker colors cost more and take more heat in July.
Vinyl fences in Springfield: common questions
Will a vinyl fence crack in a central Illinois winter?
Good quality vinyl handles cold well. It becomes more brittle in very low temperatures, so a hard hit from a mower, a ball or a snow blower chute in January can crack a picket or panel. Single sections can be replaced.
Can vinyl stand up to the wind here?
Yes, if the posts are deep and the panels are properly reinforced. Most vinyl fences that fail in wind fail at shallow posts or at rails that were not locked into the posts.
Does my subdivision allow vinyl?
That depends on your covenants, not on us or the city alone. Some associations require it, some limit the color, and a few do not allow solid fence at all. Check the written rules before ordering.
